I joined Livejournal 20+ years ago and I became totally enthralled about sharing my boring life, but learning to expand my mind and find out how others find hope and perseverance. I struggled to just post something, hoping to write something impactful and inspiring. I think for me that takes practice and consistency. Let me try again.
My children are adults - Daughter age 30 and Sons ages 28 and 24. My daughter is a middle school Special Ed teacher (bless her) AND a foster parent to two teenage girls (double bless her heart!). She's a powerhouse. I pray for her strength a every day. When she's not working or parenting, or helping and coping her best friends, she is just trying to regroup so we don't talk/visit as much as I would like, but she has my heart for sure. Middle child tried hard to make me gray haired his whole raising years. Somewhere he calmed down and gave me a lovely daughter-in-love and the most precious grandson about to turn 1 years old. Youngest tried to buck in his teens, but he's in a school/apprentice program for pipe fitting and well on his way to a great career. I am truly blessed.
Hubby is a landscaper and enjoys hands on/outdoors. He has put up with me for 31 years of marriage!
I am an Enneagram 5. Discovering this has been life changing. It gave me permission to be myself. I didn't find out I'm a very strong introvert until after marriage/kids. By that time it was suck it up and put on your big girl panties! My kids made it to adulthood so I call that a win!
I live in a 100 year old mill house. The Mill was bought by Goodyear and the workers had small houses around the mill and it was a thriving community with a school, pool, church all around. It's about 1000 square feet. I think the bathroom/laundry area was an add on. There is always something to be fixed, but I do love it. It has original hardwoods. I love to sit on my front porch. There are beautiful large oak trees all around.
I work as a Financial Secretary. This is new to me this year being promoted from Admin/Communications which I kind of miss, but getting much better pay by doing bill paying and payroll. Never a dull moment.
My faith is important to me. But I'm not trying to convert or judge others. I'd like to learn from others. I am convinced God is shining over us, speaking to us, wanting a relationship with us. I know for me I fight the noise of this world to listen and hear. This world is a messy, noisy place!
Feel free to join my mess and teach me a thing or two.
This happened today
Nov. 15th, 2024 12:26 pmWhen you go in for a quick oil change and you get that and an amazing hand wash detailing at a great rate and they make your car look, feel and smell brand new and you drive away feeling seen, pampered and loved. I tell you the power and presence of God was seen and felt. Headlight Champ across from Cartersville High School.

Awesome day
Nov. 8th, 2024 09:05 pmBeautiful day. Early morning on the front porch. Blackberry mocha coffee, time in the beautiful Cartersville library learning notion. Something clicked and I’m really loving it. Then time to stroll through a new Nature's Health Market store. I feel renewed.
Today I read about my college sorority sister running and completing the NY marathon. I told her: Beyond amazing. You are the "we are capable of so much more" champion. Truly inspiring. Enjoy your spectacular accomplishments.
Then tonight I accidentally stumbled across the documentary Once is Enough, a movie about Jeffrey Binney, an ordinary 30 something, grieving from the loss of his mother, he decided to train and complete an ultra marathon of 100 miles. He did it.
I will never run a marathon. But there is something extreme for me to do. I know it

Random Things
May. 28th, 2024 01:58 pmI so wish I could make my life sound interesting or possibly entertaining like
susandennis . I'm afraid it's a miserable fail. But documenting things might come in handy.
Yesterday we unfortunately drove back from Florida visiting the in laws. We say we're going to check on them. But truth is that take great care of us! They are soon to be 80 and 82 and Sky (the older) knows that he is becoming forgetful and has some dementia. Damnit. He's a good man. A smart man. He's doing what he can to fight it. But it may be at least partly due to the meds he has to take for prostate cancer. So unfair. He made the decision not to drive anymore so as not to cause an issue. That is certainly honorable. Sue is fine to drive for now so it works out, but still.
Being back at work is fine but difficult as well. Wish I had choices/options. But it could be worse. At least I have a job to go to! Make the best of what you got.
I was able to get in the pool everyday while in Florida. What joy. It was so refreshing. I could go everyday/often if I planned to here. Set your priorities.
In the next month I'll be welcoming grandbaby #2. Waylon, the older brother is 17 months, and his little sister Rylie is due mid June. Woohoo! Who knew being a grandparent could bring so much joy!
My daughter (my oldest child) is now 30 and it's an adjustment to not be able to say all 3 kids are in their 20's. She just finished her 9th year of teaching Special Education. She had been doing Middle School, but will move back to Elementary School next year. She's an angel. In addition, she is also a Foster Parent. At the beginning of the year she had two teenage girls. Now she has a 3 year old boy and brothers ages 2 and 1. Can you say hand full? I pray for her strength and stamina daily.
Adulting gets old. Truly.

Here's to better living
Mar. 25th, 2024 04:45 pmI now have a CPAP machine. I can't say I wanted one, but......
I went to an ENT 3 years ago about snoring and found out that
I procrastinated, but finally went. I did a new at home test and it confirmed severe sleep apnea.
I guess I did not realize how bad I was sleeping. Plus I have been on meds for high blood pressure for years with no real clarification of why other than I could stand to lose some weight. But my parents were overweight and did not have high blood pressure.
Anywho. I feel better. I am sleep better. I am thinking clearer. I can get more done. So sleep mask blowing air at me at night it is. Who knew?
I went to an ENT 3 years ago about snoring and found out that
- I have a deviated septum and may need surgery
- I am allergic to 30 some things - mostly foods and I should consider weekly shots
- I have severe sleep apnea and need a CPAP but they are currently on backorder due to a national lawsuit about breathing mold or something
I procrastinated, but finally went. I did a new at home test and it confirmed severe sleep apnea.
- 415 hypopnia events
- but only 50 of not breathing
- Average 52/hour. Severe. Anything over 5 is apnea
- My oxygen level went as low as 72 percent

A time for every purpose
Jan. 24th, 2024 02:13 pmI've spent a lot of time these last few weeks griping and complaining (in my head) about Winter, coldness, darkness and general unpleasant weather. I think more than once that I would be nice to hibernate and wake up in the spring. And then I hear a voice saying that every season has a purpose. We need cold, and shorter days to prepare and make best use of long, warm days. Basically, God is saying put on your big girl panties and deal with it. Every season has a reason.
Lord, help me. Ugh.

Lord, help me. Ugh.

If you live in the South, but closer to the Northern end of the state, you sometimes get a sprinkle down of cold weather, ice or even snow. We had a threat of that today, so schools were cancelled, and gov't openings were delayed. Then we woke up and it was cold and windy but nothing else. But it was decided to not open work today in solidarity...so yeah. Hubby reported to work at 10.
I got a few work things done....enough to say I worked, then petted the dog, started laundry, ate lunch and watched a few episodes of House Hunters. This afternoon I hit the pool for a fantastic workout.
I could get used to this. But it's only slightly warmer the rest of the week. Next week it's 50s and 60's. Go figure.

Almost Christmas
Dec. 22nd, 2023 10:27 amI am SO looking forward to downtime. Quiet. Chill. Not quite there yet, but I'm working on it.
This morning I went to an actual bakery to buy Christmas gifts for the office. The gentleman working there made it quite clear that proper customers preorder their requests. No Gingerbread men. I asked the price of these mini Christmas loaves (like 1/4 size of regular loaf pan). He said $34.99. I asked again. The next sizes were $40 and $50 something. I'm wondering where is teh gold they bake in there. The proper word for bakery cheese crackers are cheese STRAWS (I was corrected). He told me $9.99/dozen I asked for 4. He brought me 4 individual cheese STRAWS in a bag for $5 something. I promptly paid and got the heck out of there. I think he was glad to get rid of the riff raff!!!!
Tomorrow I will sit my butt at home and wait to see if UPS delivers a phone I ordered. I was exercising last Friday when they tried to deliver. The note left said they would deliver to local CVS for pick up. Then they said they were sending back to ship point in the next town that would be closed until Monday. Checking between the shipper (Google) and UPS and I learned that signature required . I see with a $600 phone, but they could have informed in advance. Then when I checked the CVS store I see why they don't leave signature required items there for pick up because items are in view barely behind the counter and the lovely people working there have no clue about UPS shipping/signature required things. Apparently you can't even do electronic leave signature for a signature required item but they don't tell you that. Apparently they can tell you they are taking to pick up point (CVS) but won't do it for signature required items. I think I finally successfully told them (through online account messaging) to hold until Friday for redelivery, although I won't know until 1) they deliver on Friday or 2) I win the lottery and talk to a human to find out the actual status. At this rate I am fine with either getting the package or return to sender.
I'm doing the countdown until Christmas break. Three more hours and then off for the next five days! Yahoo! ThankyouJesus!

Two more days after today and then I'm off for 5 days! Woo Hoo! I tried to be stressed yesterday, but today I'm trying to be chill. And grateful.
Today I saw my one and only baby pictures of myself (with my sisters), but I knew my smile felt familiar. So I found these other pics and connected. Amazing and blessed. Little guy has his first Christmas and then turns one year old 3 days later. I cannot wait to celebrate with him!!

THIS song is fire! An old favorite classic reimagined. Feeds my soul.

Is it only Tuesday?
Dec. 12th, 2023 04:36 pmThe weekend can't get here soon enough.
The check engine light came on in my car. It drives fine, but ..... After work yesterday I went to Auto Zone to have them read the code. I made it to the first store after a lot of traffic and as I was walking in, the sign on the door said "Our reader is broken." NUTS! By the time I made it to the next store it was dark. The code was P0304 AND 0303, 0302 and 0301, and 0300. Basically all my cylinders are misfiring. If you google that it could mean dirty cylinders, needs new spark plugs, on up to impending engine failure!!! Agh. After that I kept trying to make it home. It's cold. It's dark. Traffic is stupid. Red lights up ahead resulted in 5 minute complete stop where you could see the reflection of blue and red lights ahead directing one way traffic...so plenty of time to contemplate break down, engine failure, long Monday, tiredness and blah!!!! But I made it home just fine.
I have a mechanic I can call but work beacons and it's an hour away and open after I leave for work and close before I get home. But I made it to work and tomorrow we'll leave the car there at 6am, drive hubby to work, go to work, leave at 3:30 to pick up hubby and hopefully pick up my car by 5. Why are car issues so stressful?
Ans hubby has doctor appointment Thursday and we are having issues getting prescriptions filled. Things USED to go from doctor to pharmacy and now it goes to pharmacy to insurance to pharmacy if we "order" but it's confusing and a pain in the &%$ and the doctor is only open Tues-Thur.
Friday is picture day for work directory with free family photos so pick up hubby, go get pics, sneak in a dinner date....all in the cold and dark and traffic. I'm thrilled.
I just want my weekend, my heated pool time and HOME.

Advent Week 2
Dec. 10th, 2023 10:39 amThis morning was cold, dreary and rainy so I bypassed early church and attend sofa/couch church via YouTube.
Week 2 in Advent is about Peace.
We anticipate Jesus' coming, and in so doing, we have peace.
O Come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant
Peace comes from believing and living in that faith. It does not come from the peace angel spreading peace dust over us.
Imagine there IS a heaven. Live it, believe it. Then you will have peace.
Psalms 85:6-7
Will you not revive us again,
that your people may rejoice in you?
7 Show us your unfailing love, Lord,
and grant us your salvation.

First Sunday of Advent
Dec. 3rd, 2023 09:44 amAfter being out of town for the last two weeks, it was good to be back in church.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/er7XdmuvoKEUY7229
The church was all decorated, and as usual I felt not yet ready.
The good news is Advent is the season of getting ready, getting prepared.
And we sang "Come thou long expected Jesus" and in the sermon we were encouraged to sing and live as if we believe it. We can prepare. We can get ready, but Christ IS coming. And the good news is He is here among us now.
When we sang O Come all ye faithful I almost lost it and wanted to blubber.
The verse that got me was this:
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
I thought of my parent, gone now 11 and 5 years ago. I miss them so much!! If they are singing in heaven they are happy, pain free, and at peace. That should comfort me.
And in Learn Something New Everyday...
Thither
From the hymn. I Come Let us Adore Him
See how the shepherds, Summoned to His cradle, Leaving their flocks, draw nigh to gaze; We too will thither Bend our hearts' oblations
Thither means, in essence, "to that place," although these days its territory is pretty much taken over by there,
ob·la·tion
/əˈblāSH(ə)n/
noun
plural noun: oblations
a thing presented or offered to God
So let us Thither to Adore Jesus.
Thanks be to God.

A great day
Dec. 2nd, 2023 07:45 pmThings that made today great:
+ I had yesterday off so I got some chores done yesterday.
+ I slept in to a late 7:30 am
+ Made my breakfast of Avocado toast and relaxed on the front porch with coffee, toast and internetting.
+ Made it to the pool for no rush, at my own pace, aqua aerobics. It was glorious. Great 1 hour workout.
+ Hubby power cleaned my car inside and out.
+ SEC championship Game. Alabama was overly punished for one loss early in the season. They proved themselves. Georgia is still strong. Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart trained and worked under Alabama Coach Nick Saban. What a win. Roll Tide!! My Daddy went to Alabama, so I grew up cheering for them and Bear Bryant. My daughter went to UGA. She had a great experience and graduated with honors. I will always cheer for Georgia....when they aren't playing Alabama or my alma mater, South Carolina Gamecocks!!!!
+ I still have one more day of my weekend.

Something new everyday
Nov. 29th, 2023 03:37 pmSomebody mentioned this (Box Breathing) in my facebook scroll, so I had to look it up.
How to do Box Breathing:
Step 1: Breathe in, counting to four slowly. Feel the air enter your lungs.
Step 2: Hold your breath for 4 seconds. Try to avoid inhaling or exhaling for 4 seconds.
Step 3: Slowly exhale through your mouth for 4 seconds.
Step 4: Repeat steps 1 to 3 until you feel re-centered.
Interesting. This past year I read the book Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor. Life. Changing. I am a mouth breather. My nasal space is kind of small and I feel like I can't get enough air through my nose.
At any rate, breathing practice can be spiritually, mentally and physically helpful and I need to do more.

Daily Devotional
Nov. 29th, 2023 09:30 am
During COVID when at home, I discovered the most awesome daily devotional. It's an app called Lectio365. You can listen to it, or read it yourself. It's a quick 8-12 minutes, but packed with scripture, prayer and insight. Here I will make notes of daily devotionals and highlight some things to remember. Today is a reflection of Dorothy Day who died 43 years ago today.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God Micah 6:8
Dorothy Day (November 8, 1897 – November 29, 1980) was an American journalist, social activist and anarchist. She was perhaps the best-known political radical among American Catholics.
Psalm 10:17-18: You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.
“We cannot love God unless we love each other, and to love we must know each other. We know Him in the breaking of bread, and we know each other in the breaking of bread, and we are not alone anymore. Heaven is a banquet and life is a banquet, too, even with a crust, where there is companionship.” ― Dorothy Day
Dear Lord, help me to think and ACT mor like Dorothy, for they will know we are Christians by our love.
Quick Tidbits
Nov. 28th, 2023 04:53 pm+ My brain goes most of the time. Sometimes trying to get to sleep, or just wanting some peace, I listen to 44Mhz music via Youtube such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI0e4OA8uaw&t=212s&pp=ygUTNDQgbWh6IGtleSBvZiBkYXZpZA%3D%3D
Forgive me if this doesn't work as a link...I'm learning.
+ I have a 27 mile commute one way to work. In the outskirts of Atlanta, that makes a 45-50 minute commute. The joys.
+ Our granddog lives with us. Bella is a black daschund mix. Middle got her with his then girlfriend in high school and they shared her until the big split. I tried so hard to ignore her and let him deal with her. Then he moved somewhere she could not go and we had her and now he will have to pry my cold dead hands off her. We love her.
+ We are at the beginning of my Seasonal Affective Disorder. Getting dark before I get home from work is just depressing. I have said quite often I wish I could hibernate.
+ I follow several van or car lifers on Youtube. The ones who can make a living making videos of their travels amazes me. I live vicariously thru their travels.
